Deep in the fryer.

August 10, 2012

Sitting in Shediac waiting for the Lobster shack to open... 10am. It's 7:30 right now.  Shediac is just East of Moncton, New Brunswick. Right now there is huge drama going on regarding lobster prices between Maine and New Brunswick. Maine is selling to the processors in NB for something ridiculous like 2.00 a pound. The NB fisherman want a minimum of 4.00 a pound. I can understand their complaint.

We arrived into New Brunswick via the South shore of Quebec along the St.Lawrence seaway. The south coast is very pretty and low key. As you head North East the towns really hammer you with tourist stuff as that is all they really have. The soft serve cones are awesome. I am eating a lot of those.
We arrived into Mont Joli to hit the coast of New Brunswick.

The arrival into NB is without fanfare. We hit the town of Campbelton in the morning. I stopped in to do a bit of work in a cafe and Lisa did some exploring. She came back saying the local ski hill has cross country trails to ride in the summer so we hit that area. Here are some photos of the AWESOME summer trails. lol. holy moly did those trail blow.
the trail was so bad.

Can you see the trail... its there. heh.. snowshoe trails in summer.

After the horrific access trail we hit the lake and it's trail. This was pretty nice.
After our cross country experience we rounded out the day poaching the mountain bike park that the province of NB maintains. It wasn't really poaching since the park was closed as it was Wednesday and they only open during weekend. The bike park is always fun. To put in perspective though vs Whistler, you can ride back up the road in roughly 15 mins to hit the top again.  We did get great information that we needed to get to Shediac for Lobster though.

On our way out to hit Bathurst, we came across tent city. Roughly 2000 roadies sign up for a 7 day grand tour in a big loop doing around 120-150 kms a day around the Gaspe and coming down to Campbelton (where we were).

We came into Bathurst later into the evening to a live band playing in the park with a ton of people out front. It turns out they play a live concert every evening during the summer. Every night a different musician or group plays an outdoor concert for two hours. That is pretty cool.

Sorry no pics of the concert. Imagine people sitting on chairs watching people sing. There. Got it. That was it. We really wanted to see the Acadian landscape and people so we headed out again to Carquet.
small distances... this is about 80 kms.

Distances are pretty small and the roads are awesome.

We arrived into Caraquet which is deep in Acadia. This is a fiercely proud group of people. Every house hangs the flag. We arrived in around 9:30 and immediately came into an auditorium for another concert. Entirely in french but pretty cool.

I am pretty sure we crashed this concert but no one stopped us.
The next morning we did more sightseeing from 80km/h and hit MiraMichi for an oil change. I had minor chest pains when the guy opened the back of my van looking for the engine. 'Uh what are you doing?' 'Oh where is your engine?' Oh geez. LOL...to add insult the injury the manager later says 'You are in good hands, he used to work at a VW dealership.' 'You mean until he was fired for draining the oil because he though all vans are air cooled still? "

Today was a bit of downtime as we did some laundry at a campground. We arrived into Shediac last night and had supper at Captain Dan's. Yup we missed the lobster shack by 15 minutes.

If you are thinking 'Wow that looks terrible... you are right!'
'What is on tap?' "Moosehead light" "What else?" "Moosehead light" "You mean to say you have one tap and you decided to use a light beer for it?" WTF? Its fried food.
Anyway it was an experience.

Its now 9:30 am and I am waiting for the shack.
